CLASSIC REVIEW FROM PAMPLIN MEDIA GROUP
THE TIMES – FEATURES (March 18, 2009)
Owning restaurants, Howard says, is a fun responsibility, 364 days a year. Then, for one day in March every year, the job elevates from fun to epic.
‘Where Every Day is St. Patrick’s Day,’ goes the O’Brien tagline. When the March 17 date rolls around each year, Howard and his staff go all out, putting on live music, hosting promotional teams from Jameson, Bushmills, Coors Lite and Jagermeister and featuring bagpipe music from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue Pipes and Drums.
This is our go-to for a local pub when we need to grab a quick, close meal and can afford the calories!
O’Brien’s is a mix of Irish pub, sports bar, and local pub. Located on the seam between Summerfield retirement community and King City retirement community, and right on 99W at the southwest end of Tigard, the clientele is diverse. If you go in for happy hour, I believe its 4-6 weeknights, you will find a ton of folks from the retirement communities (lots of blue hair), while a visit from 5-7 will find the patrons have shifted to work groups from local businesses. A little later the visitors are 30ish to 50ish and as the night goes on they get increasingly younger. Imagine that.
